There was a drama at Lagos police command this morning
at formal Lagos CP, Edgar appears at the police command and Egbetokun resumed office

According to our source, the Acting Commissioner of
Police designate, Kayode Egbetokun as parked his car at CP’s place while
Edgal’s car was parked at another place.
But after Edgar receiving the call, Edgal went upstairs
where the Divisional Police Officers (DPO) converged to notify them of the
“good news.” That he remains the Commissioner of police in Lagos.
Imohimi told reporters on Tuesday that he remains the
Lagos State Commissioner of Police at the Command Headquarters, Ikeja GRA.
According to him, he received a call from Police
Headquarters in Abuja that there is no change of Guard in Lagos Police Command.
Immediately, after the announcement, Egbetokun’s car
was removed and Edgal’s replaced it.
Egbetokun left without speaking with reporters.
Guber poll: APC group seeks 3 million votes for Sanwoolu
A group,
Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu Ambassadors (BOSA) has launched a campaign to garner
3 million votes for the All Progressives Congress, (APC) candidate in the Lagos
state gubernatorial race, Babajide Sanwo-Olu. Speaking during the launch,
Convener of the group, Wale Arogundade, said the decisison to work for the
victory of the APC candidate was taken after a thorough appraisal of his plans
for the state and the manifesto of the party.
Explaining that
the group is a coalition of 3,000 community based and youth driven
organisations spread across the state, Arogundade said BOSA has appointed
coordinators across the state to enure that 3 million votes are secured for
Sanwoolu ahead of the election. He said each ward in the state has a
coordinator that has been trained to move from house-to-house and
street-to-street in the campaign to ensure the victory of Sanwo-Olu.
At the event
attended by APC chieftains and members, the group distributed souvenirs and
mandated their coordinators to be up and doing in the task of delivering the
much needed votes to the APC candidate. "We have gone through the
manifesto of Mr Sanwo-Olu. We are impressed. We are inspired that he will
continue all capital projects. We are impressed that he will create more jobs,
tackle electricity decline through new incentives and innovations and battle
insecurity with greater zeal.
"From Monday, we shall be visiting every
street, market places, churches, mosques, the creeks and watersides to speak to
the people of Lagos to support Sanwo-Olu. With a voter’s figure of 6.2million
in Lagos, securing 3 million votes for Sanwo-Olu will definitely not be a
difficult task. We call on all voters in Lagos to join us in this tall order.
This is a task that must be fulfilled. This is a task we shall fulfill. We use
this opportunity to call for a free and fair election in Lagos,"
Arogundade said.

“The said Mustapha Adekunle aka Seigo, an NURTW
chieftain, came to the rally with a group of people and were identified at the
entrance as supporters of the party .
However, at the tail end of the event, Seigo and his
group for a reason yet to be determined, violently engaged other supporters of
the party. In the ensuing melee, one MC Oluomo, another NURTW chieftain, was
stabbed and was rushed to EKO Hospital where he is currently recuperating while
two other victims of the attack were taken to the Lagos State University
Teaching Hospital for treatment. The crisis was quickly contained by policemen
at the venue.
It will be recalled that a few hours before the rally
started, the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State, held a meeting with the leaders
of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW ), ROAD TRANSPORT
EMPLOYERS ASSOCIATION and other affiliate groups where all the parties agreed
to eschew violence before, during and after the electioneering. It was
therefore surprising that a prominent member of NURTW would attempt to
violently disrupt a peaceful political rally.
In view of the development, the Command wishes to
encourage members of the public with useful information on the whereabouts of
Mustapha Adekunle popularly known as Seigo to report such at a nearest police
station.
Meanwhile, two persons have been arrested in connection
with the incident.”
The Nigeria Union of Journalists condemns in the
strongest terms the attack by gun
men on some journalists who were covering the Lagos State
rally of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos on Tuesday, January 8,
2019.
It was reported that those that were affected by this
attack were the group political editor
of The Nation Newspaper, Emmanuel Oladesu, New Telegraph correspondent,
Temitope Ogunbanke and Ibile Television cameraman, Abiodun Yusuf.
Also Mr. Tunde Arogundade of on behave of International
Press Centre (IPC), Lagos-Nigeria condemned the attack on Journalist and reminds
all political parties that the Nigerian Media Code of Election Coverage
obligates them to ensure the safety of journalists covering their activities
including campaigns.
“IPC therefore calls on the Lagos APC to urgently take
appropriate steps to apprehend the alleged perpetrators of the bizarre attack
with a view to handing them over to the law enforcement agencies for immediate
prosecution, also as provided by the Code of Election Coverage.
IPC calls on all journalists covering the on going
campaigns to keep themselves abreast of all safety measure. They should learn
to stay away from political activities where rival gangs engage in show of
force especially through display of weapons.”

Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode on Tuesday
assured Lagosians that the Government would deliver more life changing projects
in 2019 for the greater benefit of all residents.
Governor Ambode, who spoke in his New Year message to
Lagosians at the grand finale of the 2018 One Lagos Fiesta (OLF) held at the
Eko Atlantic City in Victoria Island, said though 2018 was a great year for the
State, the New Year holds greater promises for all.
He said: “I want to thank God for giving us this New
Year and also thank all residents of the State for being peaceful and for
cooperating with our government in delivering services in 2018 and we are ready
to take Lagos to the next level.”
On expectations for Lagos, Governor Ambode said
irrespective of the fact that 2019 is an election year, the State would witness
more prosperity as the enabling environment for the economy to thrive had
already been firmly established.
“I want you to know that 2019 has a lot in stock for
all of us and we must stand up for a better Nigeria and a greater Lagos.
“I believe the GDP of Lagos will grow and I believe
irrespective of what is happening, Lagos remains the most prosperous State in
Nigeria and it can only get better,” the Governor said.
The Governor attributed the successes his
administration has recorded in the last few years to the sterling efforts of
security agencies in keeping the city safe, adding that the State has emerged
as the safest place to live in Africa.
He also assured that he would leave no stone unturned
to ensure that ongoing capital projects across the State would be completed
before the expiration of his tenure in May.
“The modest successes we have recorded would not have
been possible without the efforts of security agencies in the State.
“I want to appreciate the efforts of security agencies
for their dogged contribution in making our State the safest place to live in
the country and Africa right now.
“Let me also assure residents that we are committed to
their well-being, security and safety. We also want to assure that we are
committed to completing all on-going projects before the end of May,” the
Governor said.
The Governor said he was thrilled that the OLF was
meeting the set objectives, saying that the positive impact of the fiesta on
the economy of the State had been massive and encouraging.
“The positive economic impact of the fiesta is very
visible. You see, at the beginning, we were doing this particular fiesta in
just one location but again we have been able to increase it to five locations,
eight days, 40 concerts and you can imagine everything surrounding it in terms
of employment, job opportunities for food hawkers, artisans and above all, the
security that has kept the city very safe.
Besides, Governor Ambode also seized the occasion to urge
Lagosians to go all out and vote enmasse for President Muhammadu Buhari in the
February 16 presidential election and also for the All Progressives Congress
(APC) governorship candidate in the State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu in the March
2 election.
According to him, victory for both and all other
candidates of the party would continue the positive economic trajectory the
country and the State in particular has witnessed since 2015.
“In Lagos, we must continue with the plan that has
worked and vote Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu as the next Governor of Lagos State,” he
said.
The 2018 OLF with the theme, ‘A December To Remember’,
continued in its fine tradition of holding simultaneously in five locations
including Agege, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe just as it attracted
thousands of participants and millions of viewers across the world.
The highlight of the grand finale at the Eko Atlantic
City venue was the spectacular display of fireworks and the raffle draw which
saw Mr. Ayodeji Omoboye, a resident in Ikorodu emerge winner of a brand new car
from GAC Motors, while other residents went home with consolation prizes.

Wife
of Lagos State Governor, Mrs Bolanle Ambode on Tuesday welcomed the first baby
of the year in the State, while restating her call for pregnant women in the
State to always patronize government health facilities for safe delivery and
also immunize their children against killer diseases.
Mrs
Ambode, who said this at the annual celebration of the first baby of the year
in the State held separately at Shomolu General Hospital, Maternal and Child
Care Centre (MCC), Gbaja, and Lagos Island Maternity Hospital, said it was
important for mothers to give quality attention and priority to the well-being
of their children in the overall interest of the society.
The
first baby 2019 for Lagos State was born at 12am to the family of Mr and Mrs
Adegbesan at Island Maternity, weighing 3.7Kg.
The
wife of the Governor said the huge government expenditure on infant and
maternal health infrastructure, could only be justified by commensurate use of
the modern facilities by the women, their babies and the children.

She
noted further that government’s efforts in stemming maternal and infant
mortality would be slow in materializing, if expectant mothers did not go to
the centres to use the facilities.
According
to her, “I wish to note that Lagos State Government has continued to strengthen
the health sector with the provision of neonatal care units, equipment and
resources to our State hospitals, to enhance the quality of maternal and child
care services in our State.
“The
workers in the Primary Health Care centres and General Hospitals are committed
and determined to provide quality care, but you have to go there and use the
facilities. Mother and Child Centres are also being located in nearly every
neighbourhood of the State, for excellent infant and maternal health care
delivery.”
Stressing
the need for immunization, she said: “My passionate appeal to mothers,
therefore, is to ensure they complete the full course of immunization for their
children, to prevent childhood killers like measles, diarrhea, pneumonia,
tuberculosis, tetanus and hepatitis, to mention a few. In addition, parents
must avoid the use of contaminated water, malnutrition and poor sanitation, as
they also contribute to childhood mortality.”
The Governor’s
wife also commended the National Population Commission (NPC) for registering
newborns at Lagos hospitals, urging parents to always cooperate with the
agency, for accurate data compilation.
Besides,
she urged expectant mothers to maintain good hygiene and health-promoting
lifestyle in pregnancy, to ensure the well-being of their expected babies.
Also
speaking, the Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris said as part of efforts to
facilitate access to health care, the State Government recently implemented the
Health Insurance scheme, and urged all residents to take advantage of the
initiative.
“It
is our hope in this New Year, with the implementation of the Lagos State Health
Scheme, more Lagosians will have access to improved services and enjoy the kind
of care they would have been unable to before now.
“With
the exemplary leadership of His Excellency, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode, you can be
confident that the State will continue to stimulate the required quality of
health service delivery that is poised to address existing health gaps and even
new health challenges that might emerge in the future,” Idris said.
Also
speaking, wife of the governorship candidate of All Progressives Congress (APC)
for next year’s gubernatorial election in the State, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu
commended Governor Ambode for his commitment and investment in provision of
infrastructure to scale up the health sector.
Ibijoke,
who is the Chief Medical Director of Shomolu General Hospital, said it was on
record that the facility had enjoyed tremendous support from the State
Government, while the Governor recently approved funds to demolish and rebuild
the distressed main building, among others.
At
Shomolu General Hospital, the first baby was delivered by the family of Awofeso
Adara Ojo by 1:47am with a weight of 3.0kg, while at Gbaja MCC, the first baby
was delivered by the family of Amudalat Ojo by 1:58am with a weight of 2kg.
Aside
the gifts given to the first babies, the wife of the Governor also distributed
Special Mummy’s Pack to all the babies at the three hospitals.

Sokoto the seat of the caliphate is
locked in a mourning mood since the news of the demise of second republic
President, AlhajiShehuUsmanAliyuShagari broke out Friday night.
As early as 8:am this morning,
sympathisers, family friends and relations have been trooping to the Sultan
Abubakar International airport for the arrival of the corpse of the late elder
statesman who died in Abuja after a brief illness while on admission at the
National Hospital.
The remains of former President
ShehuUsmanAliyuShagari was laid to rest at his country home of Shagari town
after a funeral prayer attended by thousands of sympathisers from across the
country.
His body arrived the Sultan Abubakar
International airport, Sokoto at about 1:30pm via a private jet where the body
was conveyed to Shagari for the funeral rites.
The funeral prayer performed at his residence
was led by Professor ShehuGaladanci after which his body received the last
respect by the army for final burial at about 3:30pm.
Those at the funeral prayer include the
eldest son of the deceased and District Head of Shagari, BalaShagari, among
early arrivals, is the Emir of Argungu, AlhajiMuhammaduIsmailaMera. federal
government delegation led by SGF Boss Gida Mustapha, Justice Minister,
AbubakarMalami, Aviation , HadiSirika; Agric, AuduOgbeh; Education AdamuAdamu;
Minster for state, Trade and Investment, Aisha Abubakar , among early arrivals,

Also at the funeral were Governors

Ambode: 2019 budget will focus on completion of on-going projects

Executive
Governor of Lagos State Governor, Mr Akinwunmi Ambode has said that the states'
year2019 budget would be dedicated to the completion of ongoing infrastructural
projects and creation of more jobs.
The Governor, Ambode spoke separately at the
Christmas Eve Dance organized by Yoruba
Tennis Club and Island Club, two foremost social clubs in the country on Monday
evening.
He said the budget would also be dedicated to
supporting businesses to thrive, as well as strengthening the security
architecture of the State.
Ambode said while it was gratifying that a lot
of provisions had been made for capital projects in the 2019 federal budget,
the State Government would also concentrate on scaling up infrastructure, among
other programmes to enhance growth and development.
Alluding to the positive economic projections
for Nigeria in 2019 by the International Monetary Fund (IMF), he said Lagos, on
a stand-alone basis in the year under reference, would achieve four percent
growth in Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
And that the social intervention initiatives
of both the State and Federal Governments would also go a long way to
facilitate serious reduction in unemployment rate.
“The economic outlook for 2019 is quite
positive. A lot of provision has been made for capital projects in the 2019
Federal Budget, some of which will directly impact the economy of our State and
will support our growth plans. On our part, we will concentrate on completing
existing infrastructural projects, creating more jobs, supporting our
businesses to thrive and strengthening our security infrastructure.
“According to IMF, the Nigeria GDP will grow
from 1.9% in 2018 to 2.8% in 2019. Lagos on a stand-alone basis will achieve
over 4% growth in GDP and this could be more if the congestion at the port and
the negative effect this has on the economy is addressed.
"We expect that the high rate of
unemployment will reduce with various social intervention programmes of the
State and Federal governments geared towards financial inclusion and liquidity
support to micro, small and medium enterprises,” the Governor said. Recalling
the activities of his administration in the last three and half years, Ambode
said it was particularly fulfilling that the State had made tremendous progress
in all sectors of the economy and had become more globally competitive and
strategically positioned among the major City-States worldwide.
“Three and a half years down the line, our
State has progressed in all sectors of the economy. We have charted a clear
path to the destination we have all dreamt about and desired. Today, our Lagos
has become more globally competitive and strategically positioned among the
major City-States of the world. Our State has become a top destination for
business and tourism and it can only get better.
“One of the key promises I made at my
inauguration on May 29th, 2015 was to make our State work for all; to spread
development from the already congested City centre to other parts of the State
with massive infrastructural development. The thinking has been to make every
part of the State economically liveable.
“We have undertaken projects in all sectors of
the economy with the sole intention of making life better for our people. All
of these and similar initiatives were made possible by the personal taxes of
high net worth residents of our State represented at this gathering which
account for a significant percentage of our IGR and I want to use this
opportunity to thank you so much for providing the resources, which have
empowered us to make a positive difference in the lives of all citizens of our
State,” he said.
Besides,
the governor said it was obvious that the State could not afford a break in
trajectory of progressive governance at this point in time, and urged the
people to continue to support the ruling party in the State.
He
cited the recently launched Lagos Health Insurance Scheme designed to guarantee
access to quality healthcare delivery for all Lagosians, saying it was
instructive that the Bill for the scheme was signed into law by his
predecessor, Mr Babatunde Fashola, while the process for its implementation was
kick-started by his administration.
“This is the beauty in continuity and we have
the assurances of Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu, governorship candidate of All
Progressives Congress (APC) in the State that the initiative will be sustained.
“Lagos State cannot afford the risk of a
break in the trajectory of progressive governance at this crucial stage of
development. The future is bright and assured. We must maintain continuity of
progress in the State,” he said.
Ambode
also commended the clubs for their immense contributions to the development of
the State, and charged them to continue to play key part in taking Lagos into a
brighter and more prosperous future.
In their respective addresses, Chairman of
Island Club, Mr. Olabanji Oladapo and his counterpart in Yoruba Tennis Club,
Professor Adetokunbo Fabamwo commended the governor for the various
infrastructural projects executed in the clubs, saying it was laudable that the
Governor kept his promise.
